Can you eat anything you like if you are working out?

eat-anythingMany people seem to think they can eat whatever they want as long as they are working out…

Well, it is a nice thought – but unfortunately, your body doesn’t work that way. You cannot offset an unhealthy eating habit with exercise. The truth is, if you are looking to lose or maintain your weight, what you put in your body is significantly more important than hitting the gym. Exercising is important to keep your body healthy, but just because you are working out for an hour or more every day, it doesn’t give you the liberty to eat whatever you want. Remember, exercise is one step forward. but a bad diet is two steps backward.

You are what you eat… You must have seen many people who exercise but still look the same, year after year. Why? Because they never paid attention to what they put on their plate.

Working out is not a free pass for an all-you-can-eat diet…

It’s a myth that if you exercise, it doesn’t matter what you eat. In fact, if you exercise, it matters even more what you eat. It’s essential to both work out, and eat right for successful weight-loss and to maintain good health. People don’t realize how many calories they consume while eating. Also, they seem to think, they burn more calories than they actually do. 

Not just that, but the majority of people have no idea how many calories each food contains, and they never read the nutritional information labels while buying foods or eating them. It takes one hour in the gym to sweat off 250 calories but people don’t even think twice before eating a burger or a slice of pizza (which probably contains twice the amount of calories or even more!!) Plus, you’re refueling your body with refined carbohydrates and will probably be hungry again in the next hour or two. It takes a lot more effort to burn 500 calories than it does to eat the same. Yes, we all know that. But, at the end of it all, the question is, is it worth it?

Exercise and healthy eating go hand in hand. Your diet has a strong influence on your health. Working out on a regular basis has many health benefits, but it can’t erase the overwhelmingly harmful effects of unhealthy food. The most dangerous are processed carbs and trans fats. There is a saying, flat abs are made in the kitchen. So it is critically important to know what to eat, when to eat, and how much to eat. Weight loss isn’t just about calories. Receiving the maximum results from any exercise will not happen without eating the right kind of foods. The single most effective way to lose weight and maintain health is by making lasting lifestyle changes.

The bottom line:

Exercising helps to keep your body in shape, but if your food choices are poor, the positive effects from your fitness regime are rendered waste by your bad eating habits. The key to a healthy lifestyle is eating whole, real foods and exercising on a regular basis.

Anyone can work out for 1 hour, but to control what you put on your plate for the rest 23 hours… That’s Hard Work.
Eat clean. You can’t out-train a bad diet.
