This week we bring you yet another inspiring transformation story. If there’s anyone out there who’s lost all hope, read on to find out what can be achieved, if one only has the patience and the desire to achieve it. This is Benita’s story, in her own words:
I am Benita Matilda and I’m 31 years old. Thank you FITMAG for this chance to share my story. I hope it will make a difference in someone’s life.
When I learned that I was pregnant, I was thrilled! I was also determined not to gain a lot of unnecessary baby weight. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. My thyroid issues made me gain an astonishing 60 pounds!
Two years passed by and I got busy in my new role as a mother. But one day, I just felt that I had had enough! I couldn’t wear the clothes I wanted to wear because they didn’t make them in my size. Going to parties was a nightmare because I felt very self-conscious and was becoming depressed.
I decided to make a change, to get the weight off—in a healthy way. It was my husband, Ankush Gupta, who introduced me to the brilliant SQUATS platform. After going through the numerous transformation stories, I got myself enrolled under a mentor without a second thought.
My journey with SQUATS started in July 2017. For the first 24 weeks, I was under Dr. Tanushree Dwivedi and for the next 12 weeks, I had Akshay Kumar as my mentor.
Within 8 months, I managed to shed the extra pounds. Started my journey from 85 Kgs and today I weigh 58 kgs (I just flipped the numbers ;-))
How did I do it?
I hit the gym at least six times a week. I worked out for at least one to two hours a day and ate healthy food about 80 percent of the time. There were even times when I took my son with me to the gym but I made sure I didn’t miss my workout. I wanted to show my little boy that eating healthy and exercising are important parts of life. The way I started looking at life itself underwent a change: I realized that the only way to live is to make sure you’re doing things to the fullest of your capabilities. It is all about desire and willpower.
Challenges and hardships are necessary obstacles on the path to anything worth having. Changing your body is no different. The human body doesn’t want to change. Eating enough food, in particular, was a personal struggle for me. Many a time, I had to force feed myself and walk around feeling bloated and uncomfortable, but in the end, it is all worth it. Seeing all the fried food leftovers on the table every night made it very difficult to say no.
Patience and dedication finally PAID OFF!!! I have my thyroid levels in control. All the body pains I had due to excess weight just vanished. The skin allergies due to thyroid have disappeared. SQUATS has given me a better life now in terms of health.
Though my program with my mentor is over, I stick to the diet and never miss my workouts. I have stopped giving into temptations. Fried and junk foods don’t tempt me anymore. From being an ardent biryani lover, I am now in love with Oats and Paneer (My meal is incomplete without Oats Upma mixed with Paneer).
I have taken a keen interest in nutrition, due to which I have taken up the INFS course. I want to strengthen my knowledge in this subject and keep inspiring people.
Currently, I follow the Low Carb diet. My workouts consist of a mix of weight training and functional training (sledge, hammer, rowing, battle ropes).
A few tips for those who plan to start their transformation journey:
- Get a plan in place.
- Figure out what your goals are, write them down and research them.
- Don’t get frustrated. It takes times but it will happen.
- Once you got everything you need, set a date you want to start.
- Dig down deep for some willpower. You will conquer your goals, and you will be living a better, healthier life.
S.Q.U.A.T.S came as a miracle in my life. And I am ever grateful to this group.”
Benita is a true inspiration for others. Team FITMAG wishes her the very best.
